Most of pedestrian researches have been done on macroscopic level [for best classical examples: Fruin (1971), HCM (1985)], which does not consider the interaction between pedestrians and does not well suited for prediction of pedestrian flow performance in pedestrian areas or building with some objects that reduce the effective width of it. In the other hand, microscopic level has more general usage and considers detail of the design. Tough the analytical model for microscopic pedestrian model is existed exist [Henderson (1974), Helbing (1992)], the numerical solution of the model is very difficult and simulation is favorable. The model has practical application of Evacuation from building, Design of pedestrian area, and Experimental & Optimization Design Tool. There are several microscopic pedestrian simulation models:

Simulation of Pedestrian Dynamics with Macroscopic and Microscopic Mathematical Models

Here, we collect two parts of a research project on the pedestrian flow modeling. Rapid growth in the volume of public transport and the need for its reasonable, efficient planning have made the description and modeling of transport and pedestrian behaviors as important research topics in the past twenty years. First, we present a macroscopic model for the pedestrian flow based on continuum mec...

Pedestrian Simulations Using Microscopic and Macroscopic Model

Pedestrians form an important component of a multi-modal transportation system. Planning and design of pedestrian amenities (multimodal points, airports, shopping malls, theaters etc) demand efficient, comfortable and safe walking operations for the pedestrians. Likewise, the movement of large numbers of people is important in many situations, such as the evacuation of a building, stadium in an...

Microscopic Pedestrian Flow Characteristics: Development of an Image Processing Data Collection and Simulation Model

mistakes in the earlier draft of this manuscript and for her love and encouragement. Microscopic pedestrian studies consider detailed interaction of pedestrians to control their movement in pedestrian traffic flow. The tools to collect the microscopic data and to analyze microscopic pedestrian flow are still very much in its infancy. The microscopic pedestrian flow characteristics need to be un...

A microscopic simulation model for pedestrian-pedestrian and pedestrian-vehicle interactions at crosswalks

This study aims to develop a microscopic pedestrian behavior model considering various interactions on pedestrian dynamics at crosswalks. Particularly, we take into account the evasion behavior with counter-flow pedestrians, the following behavior with leader pedestrians, and the collision avoidance behavior with vehicles. Aerial video data at one intersection in Beijing, China are extracted fo...

Toward a Hybrid Approach for Crowd Simulation

We address the problem of simulating pedestrian crowd behaviors in real time. To date, two approaches can be used in modeling and simulation of crowd behaviors, i.e. macroscopic and microscopic models. Microscopic simulation techniques can capture the accuracy simulation of individualistic pedestrian behavior while macroscopic simulations maximize the efficiency of simulation; neither of them a...
